Komando: Choosing the best Android isn't a snap

What's the most popular smartphone on the market? Android is the most popular smartphone operating system. Many manufacturers make Android phones.
This makes it difficult to select the right one. Fortunately, all the major carriers offer a selection of Android smartphones. And there is a model to suit any budget. Let's take a look at some of the best options. Be sure to visit www.komando.com/news for a handy chart comparing these phones in greater depth.
Motorola Atrix
The Motorola Atrix is available for $200 with a two-year contract on AT&T. It has a dual-core processor and a large 4-inch display. There's a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and an LED flash. And you can record 720p high-definition video with the rear camera. A front camera lets you video chat.

The Atrix runs Android 2.2 Froyo. That means it can handle Flash video. (Flash video is used for most online videos.) And thanks to 4G support, it offers fast data speeds. The Atrix has a mobile hotspot feature that can connect up to four gadgets. You'll pay $20 monthly to use it.
Motorola is offering a dock for the Atrix. It runs $500 or $300 when purchased with the Atrix. You must pay a $20 monthly tethering fee to use the phone's cellular connection with the dock.
HTC EVO Shift
The HTC EVO Shift sells for $150 with a two-year contract with Sprint. It has a 3.6-inch display. There's also a slide-out keyboard to make typing easier. But this makes it slightly heavier and thicker than other models. There's a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash but no front-facing camera. It records 720p HD video.
Like the Atrix, the EVO Shift features 4G support for faster data connections. It runs Android 2.2 Froyo, also allowing Flash video playback. Additionally, the EVO Shift can function as a hotspot connecting up to eight other devices. You'll pay $30 monthly for the privilege.
Samsung Continuum
The Samsung Continuum is available on Verizon's network for $80. That's after a two-year contract. The Continuum has a 3-4-inch display and a 1.8-inch secondary display. The secondary "ticker" display can stream news and updates from social networks.
The Continuum has a 5-megapixel camera that's capable of 720p HD video. It also has autofocus and LED flash. There is no front- facing camera. It runs Android 2.1 [239 191 189 ]clair, which means it won't play Flash video. The Continuum can connect up to five gadgets with the mobile hotspot feature. You'll pay $20 monthly to use the feature.
LG Optimus T
T-Mobile is offering the LG Optimus T for free with a two-year contract. It has a 3-2-megapixel rear-facing camera, but no front- facing camera for video chats. The Optimus T has a 3.2-inch screen; unlike other touch screens, it isn't made of glass. This makes it ideal for those who aren't always careful with their phone.
The Optimus T has an FM radio and a 3.2-megapixel rear camera. There is no front-facing camera. It only records video in standard definition, and the camera lacks a flash. The Optimus T runs Android 2.2 Froyo. But unfortunately, its browser doesn't support Flash video. You can connect up to five gadgets with its hotspot feature. There is no charge to use it with an unlimited data plan.
